LECTURER in BIOLOGY

Elise Walck-Shannon, PhD (genetics), joined CIRCLE as an Educational Specialist in Biology in January of 2017. Elise was part of the Transformational Initiative for Education in STEM (TIES) program, which provided assistance and resources for faculty to incorporate evidence-based teaching techniques into their courses.

Currently, Elise’s primary work includes collaborating with faculty in the Biology department to improve student learning and collaborating with researchers at CIRCLE to evaluate the impact of those changes. In particular, Elise is working to provide students with more opportunities for formative assessment and metacognition in introductory biology. Elise also works with faculty from upper level courses to introduce active learning approaches into their classrooms.

Elise also teaches introductory lab sections in the Biology department.
