Make it Stick: The Science of Successful Learning, co-authored by Peter Brown (Writer), Henry Roediger (Washington University in St. Louis), and Mark McDaniel (Washington University in St. Louis), draws on recent discoveries in cognitive psychology to offer concrete techniques that can help people become better learners.
New insights into how memory is encoded, consolidated, and later retrieved reveals that the process of struggling with information or skills is associated with learning that is more complete and longer lasting. Therefore, study or practice strategies that are more challenging, such as self-testing or interleaving practice of one skill with that of another, are more beneficial than many more common approaches, like re-reading and rapid repetition.
Make it Stick describes the research and translates it into specific study and practice techniques that can be employed by teachers, students, trainers and athletes for more robust learning.
